What are Ayurvedic superfoods? The answer may surprise you!Superfood is the term used to describe a vegetable, fruit, nut, seed or some other part of a plant that is higher on the nutritional scale than most. Superfoods earn their name because they burst with things like antioxidants, organic acids, vitamins and minerals, essential fatty acids, and more.Ayurveda explains that for a food to be “super”, it needs to do two things: (1) promote ‘Sattva (Purity)’ in the mind and (2) directly nourish ‘Ojas (essence of life)’. Ayurveda, however, deems even some of the most common of everyday herbs, spices, grains, seeds, and nuts as super-charged foods when used in accordance with the ayurvedic principles of creating balance.
